REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS DEPARTMENT

1. Car loan scheme

The department facilitates purchasing of motor vehicle for public officers who have been confirmed and are permanent and pensionable or serving on contract. Officers on secondment also qualify for the loan. The repayment period is a maximum of five years.

 

2. Housing Loan Guarantee Scheme

Officers who have been confirmed, permanent and pensionable may apply for a mortgage loan to build a house, purchase a house, complete an ongoing house construction or renovate a house. The repayment period is a maximum of twenty years.

 Equity release an officer may render a house as surety to obtain a lump sum equal to the value of the house.

Officers serving on contract terms and are eligible for gratuity to secure the guaranteed amount by the Government, are also eligible.

3. Loti Brick Scheme

The scheme covers all public officers on the pay roll of the Government of Lesotho, and those whose contracts are above two years. The bricks are delivered after the first installment has been successfully deducted while the remaining balance will be paid in a maximum period of two years.

4. Government Housing

The government of Lesotho has a pool of houses that she allocates to her strategic employees country wide. Only officers who are on grade F and above and are permanent and pensionable or on contract terms may apply for government housing.

 

5. Honorarium

It serves as a token of recognition of achievement of a special assignment. To qualify for it, an officer must be involved in special non-recurring assignments that are not part of their routine duties. The results of the assignment must be acceptable and technically implementable. The lump sum may be paid up to the maximum of M5, 000.00 (once off).

6. Compensation for Occupational diseases, injuries death while on duty

The aim of such a policy is to facilitate a process for payment of medical treatment and compensation for disablement caused by occupational injuries and diseases sustained by employees in the course of their employment or for death. If an officer is involved in an accident at work or develop an illness caused by working conditions or dies, then he/she can claim for compensation.

 

7. Protective clothing and official uniform

Policy is formulated to commit to providing a safe and a healthy workplace for all employees. There is a policy on standardization of work dress which assists to implement measures to protect the employees from recognized hazards at work and also for uniformity especially in fields such as nursing.
